Call off

Meaning:

Example:

Bring up

Meaning:

  • To mention a topic in conversation.

  • To mention a subject or start to talk about it.

Example:

Figure out

Meaning:

  • To solve or understand something.

  • To think about someone or something until you understand them/it.

Example:

  • To find out more about something, or take more action connected with it.

Example:

  • I'll follow up with the client tomorrow.

  • The idea sounded interesting and I decided to follow it up.

Run by

Meaning:

  • To get someone's opinion or approval on something.

  • To tell someone about something so that that person can give their opinion about it.

Example:

  • Let me run the proposal by the manager before we proceed.

  • Would you run your idea by me one more time?

Take on

Meaning:

  • To accept a new responsibility or task.

  • To decide to do something; to agree to be responsible for something or someone.

Example:

  • He's taken on more projects than he can handle.

  • We're not taking on any new clients at present.
